03: More on Jesus

WORSHIP: This is Amazing Grace by Phil Wickham

“This is amazing grace
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You would lay down Your life
That I would be set free
Jesus, I sing for All that You’ve done for me”

Today, (and I think for the next couple of days,) we are digging deep into discovering more about Jesus. Let’s pray for new revelations about Christ. I know that there are times when you read the same verses over and over again, it can get tiring; but trust me that each reading does change depending on your current situation. Trust that the Bible will continually give you wisdom. 🙂

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave”

TRUTH: Isaiah 53:1-6

53 Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Like one from whom people hide their faces

he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,

    stricken by him, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
    each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him

    the iniquity of us all.

For the longest time, I was so stubborn to believe that Jesus has felt “real * human * pain.” In my head, I always thought that no matter how battered or bruised He looked, it wouldn’t matter because He is God. Those things are nothing to Him.

But girl no.

From this verse, I was reminded of HOW He did become FLESH. Jesus * REALLY * ACTUALLY * DID * come to Earth. AS A BABY AT FIRST, hello. Which would mean that, yes, He had, in fact, go through all human suffering, problems, even the awkward-puberty stage I assume, and many others. I mean, He was blameless and perfect, of course, but let’s be real, with that, He was surely made fun of or bullied a lot. Even the fact that He was born out of a virgin mother. It’s something unbelievable!

Here are some verses that gave me new insight on Jesus:

Verse 3a “a man of suffering, and familiar with pain”

Jesus does, in fact, know how we feel like. He can relate to us on the wickedness of society. He is no stranger to how humans can do and say such evil and mean things. I’m sure Jesus has felt hurt.

Physically, Jesus was brutally TORTURED! He felt every lash, ever nail pierced THROUGH His skin. He even cried out and said “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me.”

Verse 5b “the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed”

Verse 6 “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

These are some reasons why we must deeply respect Him. No amount of worship is enough to express His tenderness, His kindness.

And have you ever thought that the literal PRINCE OF PEACE has done as an act of service?! Like we should be the one servicing Him! Jesus is the literal WAY, the BRIDGE which connects us to our Father. I sometimes see Him as that older brother who sticks up for us to our parents, who just wants the best for everybody. When we wander astray, Jesus will make a way for us to go back home to our Father.
